HWFL Intensive Programs

Healthy Weight for Life ™ (HWFL) Intensive is the complete healthy portion and lifestyle modification intervention that is a key part of the Osteoarthritis, Diabetes and Heart Health HWFL programs - refer to program links below for full details.

The intensive version of HWFL utilises KicStart™ VLCD in the initial phase as a highly effective portion control tool. This enables a greater reduction in the total 'energy in' than can be achieved with self-prepared solid meals.  

HWFL Essentials

HWFL Essentials, is appropriate for those with a lower BMI who don't have existing health problems, or who don't require an intensive intervention, to help improve their nutrition and wellbeing with the aim of preventing the development of chronic conditions. The typical structure of the HWFL Essentials plan is:

It aims to give you the education, tools and support that will help you achieve your weight management and lifestyle modification goals. The extensive education and behaviour modification modules include:

  • healthy eating and meal portion planning
  • goal setting and making good habits
  • mindful eating and drinking
  • increasing activity levels
  • stress management and the importance of a support network.
  • maintaining motivation

The printed and online tools can help you keep track of your progress, assist you in selecting the right portion sizes of healthy and tasty food, and can guide you in building healthy new habits – for life.


HWFL Essentials includes:

Care Support Team

The HWFL Care Support Team is a specialised multidisciplinary team of pharmacists, dietitians, occupational therapists, nurses, program navigators and logistics experts who all work together to ensure you are supported and feel confident as you progress through the 18 weeks of the program and beyond.

The team provide 2-way personal support and advice via phone, SMS, email, private online message board and post.

Week-by-Week Guide - step by step guide book

The HWFL Week-by-Week Guide contains the educational modules that form the backbone of the HWFL program. It has been carefully designed to be read week by week throughout the program and maps out the complete journey making it an easy to follow process.

Portion Planner Disc - prepare tasty, portion controlled meals

A common mistake many people make with their evening meal is unconsciously consuming a larger portion than they need.

By using the Portion Planner Disc and following the instructions provided in the HWFL Week-by-Week Guide you can reduce the energy content of your evening meal by around 50% without going hungry or feeling like you are on a restrictive diet. This one simple change can help you reduce your weight and keep it steady for the long term.

Lunch and Snacks - planning to take control

Filling the lunch and snack box each day with your choice of great tasting healthy food will help you overcome the many external factors that influence what you choose to eat and drink during the day and will help you establish some new easy to maintain healthy habits.

Water Bottle - avoiding high energy drinks

Filling and re-filling your drink bottle with plain water and drinking from it regularly throughout the day (aiming for up to two litres) will help you reach an adequate level of hydration and can help you avoid snacking.

Free Food and Drinks - no need to go hungry or get bored!

An important key to successful weight loss and weight maintenance is finding ways to avoid feeling hungry or getting bored.

Any combination of low energy density 'Free Foods" can be consumed at any time during the day because they do not contain enough food energy (kilojoules or calories) to have a significant impact on body weight.

This means you can enjoy really great food without compromising your eating plan.
