A Spring Reset for Your Mind & Body
As the weather warms and the days grow longer, there’s a collective urge to throw open the windows and sweep away the winter dust. Spring is more than just a season for decluttering our living spaces… it’s the perfect time of year to refresh your health and wellness efforts too!
Harness the boost in motivation and rejuvenating energy that comes with the warmer weather and longer days. Spring clean your mind and body.
The HWFL team have pulled together their favourite springtime tips and goals here to help get you spring into springtime. We’ve included an example SMART goal for each tip to get the ideas flowing.
1. Mindful movement & the great outdoors
A little sunshine goes a long way. Take advantage of the pleasant weather and longer days by enjoying a little more time outdoors. You can start with little changes like sitting out in the garden while you check emails, taking your lunch down to the park, walking the scenic route back to the car after work. These little efforts can have a huge impact on both your mental and physical health.
Spring Challenge: Eat your lunch outside twice a week for the month of September.
2. Nourish your body from the inside out
Spring offers an array of fresh produce that can nourish your body from the inside out. Fill your basket with vibrant fruits and vegetables and experiment with some new recipes (or the tried and tested classics 😉). Rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, the seasonal produce on offer in spring will have you feeling fresh and ready to take on the world.
And of course, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water to help your body make use of all those delicious nutrients.
Spring Challenge: Find 4 new recipes that showcase fruit or vegies and test them out on family or friends over the next 4 weeks.
3. Declutter your house, and your habits
Just as you clear clutter from your living spaces, take a moment to declutter some less healthy habits. This can be a tough one to get started on, but if you can crack it, it can deliver a profound feeling of achievement.
Give yourself 15 minutes if you can, grab a cuppa, free yourself of distractions, and make a list of habits you’d like to reduce or eliminate. Then pick one, start small, and keep at it.
Spring Challenge: Reduce screen time incrementally. Put your phone under an upside down bowl with a kitchen timer on top. Set the time to 15 minutes and find something else to do. Add 5 minutes to the timer each day until you get to an hour screen free. Before long, you might notice you’re not reaching for your phone as often.
4. Strengthen your social connections
Our relationships are a powerful source of wellbeing. Whether it’s a walk with a friend, a quick coffee, a long lunch, or a simple phone call, fostering positive connections can give even the most introverted people a nice mental health uplift.
Spring Challenge: Reach out to two friends you haven’t seen in a while by the end of the month.
This is your season for renewal. Embrace the energy of spring and give yourself the gift of a refreshed and revitalised life.
What are you most excited to spring clean in your own life?
